VRML Simulation of
Molecular Spectra

A molecule can rotate, and it can vibrate either the length of its chemical bonds, or their orientation angles.

Here is a VRML (Virtual Reality Modeling Language) 3D animation of various modes of vibration for a molecular excitation. In this simulation (which will launch in a separate window) you can click on spectral lines to animate the mode of vibration corresponding to that spectral energy.
