The electromagnetic spectrum spans an enormous range of wavelengths. On the one hand, radio waves can be tens of meters in wavelength, while on the other very high energy gamma rays can have wavelengths of 1/100 billionth of a centimeter or even shorter.
The visible spectrum, which is the portion to which our eyes are sensitive, is seen to be a miniscule portion of the entire spectrum.
