Curve of Binding Energy

This movie illustrates the curve of binding energy, which determines which nuclei are stable against fusion or fission, and the amount of energy that can be released in such reactions. The peak of the curve denotes the most stable nuclei. The nuclei to the right of the peak can produce energy if they fission of their own accord or are forced to fission. Two nuclei to the left of the peak can produce energy if they are made to fuse into a single heavier nucleus. Usage: Click "Play" to begin the movie. Click "Home" to return to the beginning.
