The above animation illustrates vibrations of the Sun as observed by GONG (Global Oscillation Network Group). The movie shows the variation of the velocity field over a few minutes time (with overall rotational motion subtracted out). By a complex analysis, it is possible to use these vibrations to study the solar interior, as discussed in the left panel.
