The Sun and the Main Sequence
A star like the Sun is on the main sequence, but not on the ZAMS. Over its 5 billion years of burning
hydrogen, the Sun's luminosity has increased by about 40 percent and its temperature increased
by about three percent from when it
first entered the main sequence. Therefore, the Sun has drifted upward and to the left slightly relative to
its orginal position on the main sequence.
