Highly Improbable Coincidences
Many people who object to the theory of evolution
would argue that the entire theory is built upon
a sequence of very improbable events. The events are
very unlikely, but this argument fails to account for
the mind-boggling timescales that are involved. Over
long enough times, the highly improbable becomes probable.
For example, we would normally consider one
chance in a billion over a period of a year to be
negligibly small odds -- practically impossible. But over a period of a billion
years an event with such a probablility becomes very likely.
