Dark Matter in the Coma Cluster
Although dark matter is a central problem of modern
astronomy, it has been known for some time that
clusters must contain much more mass than we can see. Already
in 1933, Fritz Zwicky used Doppler methods to determine average velocities in
the Coma Cluster and deduced that there must be much more mass present than
just the luminous mass in order for the cluster to hold together.
