Members of the Local Group
The number of members in the Local Group is uncertain because the obscuring dust of the Milky Way's
plane may well be hiding members that we cannot see. To some degree we can penetrate the dust at
IR and RF wavelengths, but galaxies faint at these wavelengths are still hard to see. Several new
members of the Local Group have been found in recent years by careful searches in obscured regions of the
sky.
