Observation of Galaxies
Galaxies are distributed rather uniformly (but not completely smoothly)
across the sky except for a narrow band near the
Milky Way called the "zone of avoidance". There
they can't be seen because of the obscuring
dust in our own galaxy.
Many of the
more nearby galaxies can be observed through small telescopes.
