Importance of the Redshift Data

Notice the importance of the third dimension added by redshift data for the conclusions summarized in the left panel. For example, three-dimensional data are required to make a distinction between soap bubble structure and spaghetti structure; these can have a similar appearance when projected onto two dimensions.
