Hawking Black Holes

This animation explains how the wedding of quantum mechanics with general relativity implies that black holes might not be completely black. They may be able to radiate their mass away, given a long enough period of time. The quantum mechanical mechanism by which a black hole can effectively emit particles is called the Hawking mechanism. Usage: Click "Play" to begin and when the button turns red to continue. "Step" moves forward one frame and "Back" moves backwards one frame. Click "Stop" to pause. "Home" returns to the beginning from any point.
