Solar Vibrational Mode

This animation shows a greatly exaggerated possible vibrational mode of the Sun. By decomposing the observed vibration of the Sun into a superposition of such modes, it is possible to learn about the interior because the structure of the interior affects the wave patterns that appear on the surface. Usage: Click "Play" to begin and "Stop" to pause. "Step" moves forward one step and "Back" moves backwards one step. "Home" returns to the beginning from any point.
