Solar Oscillations

This animation illustrates vibrations of the Sun observed by the Global Oscillation Network Group (GONG). The movie shows the variation of the velocity field over a few minutes time, with overall rotational motion subtracted out. By a complicated mathematical analysis, these vibrations may be used to study details of the solar interior. Usage: Click "Play" to begin and "Stop" to pause. "Step" moves forward one step and "Back" moves backwards one step. "Home" returns to the beginning from any point.
