The following figure collects the images of
several planetary nebulae that were observed with the Hubble Space Telescope.
There appears to be a
large
variety of ways in which the central star ejects the outer layers, from spherical symmetry as in
IC 3568 to
a pinwheel structure as in NGC 5307.
