The Milky Way Galaxy has three basic visible components:
the visible halo, the central bulge,
and the disk. In addition, it has a halo of dark matter that we cannot see but that makes its presence
known by
its gravitational influence. The major portion of the galaxy's mass is probably in the
dark matter, which is of unknown composition.
