Competing Theories
Calculations suggest that in the early Universe the first regions to collapse
under the influence of gravity
were probably either very large (supercluster size), or very small (globular
cluster size). The top-down theories considered in this section assume
that the larger scales collapse first. The bottom-up theories examined in the
next section assume that the smaller scales collapse first.
