Examples of Globular Clusters (2) ...

The Hubble Space Telescope is now capable of resolving globular clusters in nearby galaxies about as well as ground-based telescopes can image clusters in our own galaxy. The adjacent right image is an example.
G1 in Andromeda
Although Omega Centauri is the brightest globular cluster in our galaxy, it is not the brightest in the local group of galaxies. This honor instead goes to the globular cluster G1, which orbits the neighboring Andromeda galaxy M31. The adjacent Hubble Space Telescope image shows G1, which is estimated to contain at least 300,000 stars. (The two bright stars are local foreground objects that are not part of the cluster.)
