Distinguishing the Scenarios
The two scenarios, black hole versus core collapse,
discussed in the left panel can be distinguished by measurements of star velocities
very close to the center. If a black hole is present, stars near the center would move much more rapidly
than if the cluster simply has a fairly compact core.
