Kepler's laws, as modified by Newton to include the effect of the center of mass, apply to binary stars as well as to planetary motion about the Sun.
In a binary star system it is much more likely that the masses of the two stars are comparable than in a planetary system like ours. Thus, the deviation of the modified 3rd Law of Kepler from the original form that did not include the center of mass effect is often significant.
