It is now believed that quasars and AGN are different aspects of the same phenomenon:
enormous energy production by accretion of matter onto supermassive, rotating black holes in the cores
of galaxies.
The different aspects of active galaxies and quasars then result from viewing this phenomenon from
different perspectives, different distances, and under varying conditions.
